Somewhere in India

Dearest Mom,
Yes, your youngest is on the other side of the world. A long way from Texas isn't it? Have already seen many and strange sights that have previously only been in a distant and unreal world. I'll store everything up and tell you all about it.

My best news upon reaching India were the letters I received, eighteen at the port and twenty six more here. It was a belated Christmas but was the most wonderful gift ever. Have read them over and over and will have some job answering them. I have a wonderful wife, Mom as if you didn't know. The twenty six I got about dark and read by candlelight. Your last letter was dated the seventeenth and airmail brings them much sooner at least in the states. When I get settled you write me of each kind and see.

Mom, am very happy about your move (page 2) and really think it will be best in the long run. Of course I didn't know just what the situation there was but trusted your judgment. I don't think the price will be too much. Write just what it looks like as I have sort of forgotten. Never go short of money!

Mom, I want to write you now to do me a favor. Eva birthday is February twenty fifth and I want you to send her a dozen red roses for me be sure and have them delivered to her at the post. They could be mailed by Victoria florist and write the check on me.

I would have bought you a present but only had enough for Eva bet you'd slap me for saying that if you could reach me. Anyway I have a wife to slap for me.

Mom, please send me the address of any fellows that are in this theatre as I may be able to see them. So Billie Bob is a father? Would like to see him in that role.

Have already eaten, slept and lived under many (page 3) conditions that I never have before. Its all sort of a game and really have enjoyed it so far and hope things will move fast till my return.

Did all turn out alright Christmas? Hope so I was with all of you in my thoughts. Will close for now and write later but I am feeling fine so don't worry.

Love
Your little butterfly
