Digital scan of black and white photograph of Carl Doering while stationed on Corregidor in the Philippines during World War II. Doering entered in 1944 and returned in 1946. Doering is standing in light fatigues with his left leg bent. Behind him there is a small mountain or hill and a white pole. On the left side of the photograph is handwritten "Corregidor".
Carl Doering of Georgetown, Texas, was drafted and trained in San Antonio, Texas; Little Rock, Arkansas; and Fort Ord, California. He served in the Philippine Islands in the 38th Army Division. His unit engaged in many battles with the Japanese in the Philippines. After the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima in August 1945, Doering's unit was ordered to accept the surrender of the Japanese in the Philippines. Doering was present when the Japanese handed over their swords, the sign of surrender. After the Japanese surrender, Doering's unit (and others) were in charge of the Japanese prisoners-of-war in the Philippines.
