Description

A black and white photograph of Ben Hartman sitting inside an airplane. He is wearing sunglasses and is leaning out of the airplane window looking slightly behind him. On the side of the airplane is painted the number "K-391," and also a painting of a bulldog holding a musket and resting his paw/foot on an airplane hangar. On the other side of this drawing reads "17 AAA BN," the letters standing for Antiaircraft Battalion. On top of the airplane sit machine gun-type weapons.

Attached to the photograph is a note that reads, "B-29 Bainbridge Bell, the plane that Ben was a mechanic for."

Ben Gilbert Hartman (1916-1996) was born in Thrall, Texas. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1943 and trained in California, Texas, and Nebraska. He served in the Marianas, and was awarded the American Theater of Operations (ATO) service medal, APO ribbon, 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct medal, and Victory Ribbons. He married Myrtle Horbratsch in 1946.
