Duncan Hughes (1914-1942) of Georgetown, Texas, was killed in action during World War II, as he was shot down over New Guinea. He was a bombardier in the Army Air Corps, Pacific Theatre. Prior to his military service, he was a member of the House, 47th legislature, Democrat, elected 1940. He was the first member of the Texas legislature to be killed in action. He completed training in June 1942 and was killed August 1942. He is interred at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Manila, Philippines.
