- Women in World War II character profiles for the lesson

Lesson Plan Text

Focus Activity:  Using volunteer, have three students put on the hats found in the Women in World War II package in the World War II trunk.  Ask the class to brainstorm how each hat changed the life of the women who wore them.

Lesson:  Using the primary and secondary sources in the Women in World War II folder, students are to complete the Women in World War II Profile Characters.

Processing:  

Option 1) Write a letter from the perspective of a woman who served in a non-traditional role/capacity during World War II – whether involved as an enlisted woman in the military or working in industry.  Letter must include the description of their job, why they were needed in this capacity during World War II and how it changed their view what women could do and should be able to do economically, socially, and politically.

Option 2) Create a poster that illustrates how opportunities for women during World War II led to new economic, social and political shifts in traditional female roles of propriety and responsibility.  Poster must include written and visual pieces and high-light the economic, social and political impacts.
