Dear Grandmother + all,

Have been so busy getting on in this army life have hardly had time to write.

Was sure glad to receive Aunt Nell's card, + hear that you pulled through your sick spell OK.

Will tell a little about KY. When arrived here the ground was covered with snow, after it melted the ground was a mess, it is red clay hills + poast oaks + does it stick to your feet.

The armored force is OK. We have lots of tanks, trucks, halftrack, peeps, jeeps, motor-cycles. I am in the tanks division + like it fine. They ride about like a truck.

Am sending you a picture of myself in uniform it is not a very good picture will have some more taken from in a tank + send you one.

Mother wrote me about Charles Phiffer's accident + had hated to hear it, thought a lot of that kid.

Would sure appreciate some home cooked cookies + candy, for the food here at times is not fit for a dog, so you see every thing is appreciated.

Was sure pretty here this morning, ground was covered with snow, the moon + stars was shining on it, + made a beautiful picture. Could not help but notice it.

It is sure lonesome this far from home, have but one buddy from Bastrop in my bunch, found a boy from Bastrop the other day. He is about five miles from where I am, you see there are only seventy five thousand boys in this camp.

Well this is all the news as now, so write a long letter next time for enjoy reading them.

Lots of love, J. D.
