Carl Everett Lidell, from Jonah, Texas, graduated from Georgetown High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin. He entered the Naval Air Corps in 1942 and Merchant Marines in 1944, training in Texas, Georgia, and Mississippi. He served in Western Caroline Islands, and was awarded the Pacific War Zone Bar by the Merchant Marines.
